Hello October

Autumn is finally here…

Let’s dance in the rain, let’s run through the leaves and let’s be grateful for the air that we breathe!

Even though the colder weather has now hit us, everything else about Autumn screams out warmth and positivity. The crisp air makes us get out our big cosy jumpers, hats, scarves and coats and makes us retreat into coffee shops to drink relentless cups of hot chocolate with marshmallows and the odd bit of cake (when I say odd bit i mean lots!).

Autumn is about cosy nights in watching your favourite movies, eating good hearty meals, lighting scented candles, wrapping yourself up in big fluffy throws, spending time with your family and you can even have more hot chocolate if you want it…I highly advise it!

Although I’m not one for the cold, I really do like the feeling Autumn brings and lying in the house at night listening to the wind howling and the rain pitter pattering off of the window fills me with a feeling of calmness and security. It’s the time of year that I start to take more time out for myself and read all my old favourite books that have started gathering dust and I’ll even treat myself to some new ones as well. Watching the leaves change colour and fall to the ground brings about that feeling of gratitude for life and is refreshing to see that change has always got positives.

Although new resoloutions, goals and self-reflection are more associated to the start of the new year (can’t believe it’s going to be 2018 soon…gosh!) I myself like to take some time out and look back at the year so far and think about what I’ve achieved, what I’ve learned and what I would like to do over the year ahead.  I think that by looking at all the positive things you have done and achieved and also the things you feel that you want to work on at this time of year allows you to have more time to reflect and make an action plan before the new year hits us in the face like a big snowball! Think of it this way, if you do the planning now then you can sit back and relax and enjoy the Christmas and new year festivities without worrying about what direction you are heading in…wouldn’t that be great!?

Get wrapped up. Enjoy the crisp air. Watch heartfelt movies and wait for it…drink as much hot chocolate and cinnamon lattes as you like!

Happy Autumn everyone!

Eat. Pray. Love.

Namaste everyone!

“Eat Pray Love” was recommended to me by a friend and what a recommendation it was indeed! From the outset it was filled with so many thought provoking themes, lessons to be learned and the message that following your dreams is the path to self-fulfillment and happiness.

Soul-searching moments are in abundance and it offers a strong sense of hope and clarity. It emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance, the ability to make positive changes within your life and move on from the things that are maybe holding you back in life and not letting you create and become the person that you’re truly set out to be.

“Eat Pray love” is a vibrant movie and offers different paces of life withinEat pray love 2 each step of Liz’s (played by Julia Roberts) journey and is accompanied with different types of music to reflect upon this. Through her discovery of the different cultures we see her travel throughout Italy, India and then onto Bali. She leaves her old life behind including broken down relationships and a career that she felt wasn’t going anywhere anymore. She realises that her longstanding dream of traveling the world needed to be put into action for her to truly find herself and happiness. She makes so many valuable friendships who help her on her journey in learning new lessons and languages and showing her that change is not beyond her reach. Thematically it portrays the ideas of cultural differences, hearty food, friendships, meditation, change, self-acceptance and development and most importantly hope.

I am in awe of Liz for having the guts to do what so many people think about and never do, especially as we get older.  We only live once and she shows that taking risks in life maybe daunting but they can be so positive, worthwhile and all in all helps to enhance our ability for self-development.

This film is an exotic travelogue and is a delightful watch which is heightened through the exquisite scenery on view. It is an easy watch and is quite simplistic in format but i think this allows the portrayal of the themes to be perfectly illustrated.  It is a heart-felt film that allows us to connect with the characters and reflect on our own lives and offers a bit of comedy to our day.

“Eat Pray Love” is definitely food for the soul! If you enjoy travel, rom coms and feel good movies then this is definitely worth a watch.

Happy viewing!

The Art of mindfulness…what is it all about

After spending the last few years trying to find a new way in dealing with my chaotic mind and my ever growing stress levels, I eventually came across mindfulness. Mindfulness has been a blessing in disguise if i’m being perfectly honest with you.  It has helped ground me, made me feel more positive and has taught me to let go of things and accept that each day maybe difficult but there is always something good within each day (even if it is just the smallest of things – it still counts!).

So what is mindfulness I hear you say…

Mindulness is a life-enhancement skill approach to living which can deepen a person’s well-being and fulfilment. Mindfulness is the art of being in the moment, in the here an now.  It is about self-awareness and curiosity of our internal and external experiences.  It is about the intentional acknowledgement and the acceptance of our thoughts, feelings and emotions through taking a non-judgemental stance.  It allows us to generate compassion for both ourselves and other people. It allows us to enter into a state of well-being and peacefulness.

Mindfulness can be practiced every day in every area of our lives such as: walking, listening to music, writing, drawing, talking to people and many more.  It is about exploring and tuning into all of our senses when undertaking these tasks.

Further to this, mindfulness has been shown to be extremely beneficial for people with: Anxiety , Depression and Phobias, however, this list is not exhaustive and can apply to anyone in everyday life.

Some research has suggested that the practice of mindfulness on a regular basis can have beneficial benefits including:

  • Reducing stress and therefore increasing positive emotions
  • Boosting our immune system
  • Helping us to focus
  • Helping to improve our memory and attention skills
  • Helps to enhance our relationships
  • Helps to increase creativity

Mindfulness has become a way of living for a lot of people nowadays. Goals are being achieved! Dreams are turning into reality! And people are starting to embrace and enjoy life that little bit more!

Try being more in the moment and who knows what you will find…

Body confidence…Forget societies expectations

Just thought I would write a short blog post on body confidence and try and breakthrough the stereotypes of the 21st century…

Everyone should love themselves for who they are and shouldn’t define themselves by societies expectations. You don’t have to lose weight to become a better person – you are already special. You don’t need to be beach body or bikini ready because your body is already beautiful. You are more than a number on a set of scales: you are kind, beautiful, intelligent and all the other  numerous qualities you possess.

You can do anything that you put your mind to. Embrace everything you have because all of these things are the things that make you the wonderful person that you are. Achieve all of your goals one by one; go traveling, spend time with your family, read amazing books, learn something new everyday and most importantly learn to be able to look at yourself in the mirror and see how much you are worth!

Love & be kind to yourself xo 💜
